Velocity Volunteers Join Forces with Ruben Castro Charities at “Grab and Go Groceries” Event
It was a rainy Saturday, but everyone at Ruben Castro Charities was wearing a smile, including Velocity Volunteers, an employee-based community outreach team recruited by residential investment and small commercial real estate lender Velocity Mortgage Capital of Westlake Village, CA.
Velocity Volunteers joined forces with others in the community to add their support to the weekly “Grab and Go Groceries” food distribution event coordinated by Ruben Castro Charities, a non-profit organization committed to eliminating generational poverty. Through donations from local retailers like Ralphs, Trader Joes, Costco, and Albertsons, the organization distributes food to over 120 low-income families and students every week.
After sorting through produce and preparing boxes of groceries, Velocity Volunteers had the opportunity to distribute over 100 boxes of groceries, bags of frozen foods, plants and flowers to families in need. “I can’t believe all of the stuff in the box,” said four-year-old Faithy, daughter of Velocity Volunteer Mickie Byron.
Faithy’s view of the Grab and Go Groceries program is truly inspirational. Those of us who have much would look at box of groceries and think it isn’t much, but through the eyes of a child, and the faces of families that the program serves, it’s a lot.
“Since the Grab and Go Groceries food distribution event is a weekly program, we’re encouraging other companies in the area to lend their support,” said Jeffrey Taylor, Velocity Co-Founder and EVP of Capital Markets. “It was a gratifying experience for our employees to work together in service to others and we look forward to participating in future events to bring support and attention to other community-based charities,” added Taylor.
