Velocity Volunteers Make “Baby Bundles” for Bundles of Joy in the Philadephia Area
Velocity Mortgage Capital’s community outreach participants, Velocity Volunteers, devoted a sunny Saturday morning to The Baby Bureau, where they assembled “Baby Bundles” to be distributed to local agencies and hospitals. These bundles are given to local babies in need and include a collection of donated new and gently-used baby items such as clothing, blankets, shoes and small toys.
For the volunteers, it was a joyful day filled with the warmth and smiles inspired by the adorable baby items and thoughts of the babies receiving them. The volunteers started out organizing hundreds of donated baby items, sorting them according to size, season, gender and condition.
Later on, they packaged the sorted items in gift bags, making each bundle a special gift for its recipient. Each bundle contained a complete care package of outfits, onesies, sleepers, bibs, a rattle, blankets, shoes, socks and the baby’s first book.
The Baby Bureau, a nonprofit organization based in Warminster, Pa., estimates that 900,000 babies will be born into poverty this year alone. Its mission is to help the underserved babies in the Great Philadelphia area. Since 2012, they have dressed over 3,500 little bundles of joy within their community.
Through The Baby Bureau program, the community can extend its support by volunteering, donating or hosting clothing drives. This community effort gives in-need families the chance to have “the baby shower that they didn’t have,” said Lori Perusich, coordinator at The Baby Bureau.
For the Velocity Volunteers, it was a rewarding day to work together in service to the youngest members of their community.
“Velocity Volunteers believe that community-based charities like The Baby Bureau deserve our support,” said Velocity regional operations manager and volunteer organizer Beckie Evans-Vuk. “To contribute time and resources is a heartwarming experience for our volunteers because it directly benefits those in need in our area. We encourage other companies in the area to lend their support to community-based charities such as The Baby Bureau.”
